The Consulate General of the Republic of Cameroon in Jeddah
celebrated the 54th National Day of the Republic of Cameroon during an
official reception held on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, at the Casablanca
Grand Hotel in Jeddah.
The prestigious event brought together Their Excellencies
Consuls General, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, members of the diplomatic and consular corps,
officials from government institutions, business leaders, media
representatives, and members of the Cameroonian community, reflecting the
growing friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Cameroon and the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Guests were warmly received by His Excellency Mr. Oumarou
Nchare, Consul General of the Republic of Cameroon in Jeddah, accompanied
by his wife, whose gracious hospitality set the tone for an evening celebrating
national pride, cultural heritage, and enduring bilateral relations.
The Master of Ceremonies (MC) was Mahamat Youssouf Zeni. The
ceremony commenced with the national anthems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and
the Republic of Cameroon, followed by a documentary presentation introducing
Cameroon as one of Africa's most diverse nations. The film highlighted the
country's rich cultural heritage, abundant natural resources, tourism
potential, strategic investment opportunities, and major infrastructure
developments that continue to strengthen its economic transformation.
In his keynote address, His Excellency the Consul General
welcomed the distinguished guests and expressed his sincere appreciation for
their presence at the celebration. He extended congratulations to His
Excellency President Paul Biya, the Government and people of Cameroon, and
the Cameroonian community residing in Saudi Arabia, while expressing his wishes
for lasting peace, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development for his
country.
The Consul General also noted that, for the second
consecutive year, the official National Day celebration in Saudi Arabia had
been postponed in order to accommodate the Kingdom's Hajj season, paying
tribute to Saudi Arabia's remarkable organization of Hajj 2026 and praising the
leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin
Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin
Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for ensuring the
safety, comfort, and dignity of millions of pilgrims from around the world.
Throughout his speech, His Excellency reaffirmed Cameroon’s
commitment to peace, dialogue, international cooperation, unity, and
inclusive development, while emphasizing that these values continue to
guide the nation's policies and international partnerships. He further
described Cameroon as "Africa in Miniature," highlighting its
geographical diversity, strategic location, institutional stability, and
expanding investment opportunities in sectors including transport, energy,
industry, and infrastructure. He referred to landmark projects such as the Kribi
Deep Seaport, modern transport networks, industrial zones, and major energy
initiatives that continue to strengthen the country's competitiveness and
economic growth.
His Excellency also reflected on Cameroon's rich historical heritage, recalling that Portuguese navigators first named the Wouri River "Rio dos CamarΓ΅es" (River of Prawns) more than five centuries ago, a name that eventually evolved into "Cameroon." He described this historical journey as a symbol of the country's enduring unity and national identity.
A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of a
commemorative diplomatic gift by His Excellency the Consul General to His
Excellency Mr. Fareed bin Saad Al-Shahri, Director General of the Makkah Region
Branch of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The gift, a distinguished bronze artwork originating from
Cameroon's West Region, depicts a horseman mounted on horseback—a traditional
symbol of courage, dignity, leadership, and prestige. According to the Consul
General, the artwork also represents the esteemed regional and international
standing enjoyed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reflects the deep
friendship shared between the two nations.
The celebration continued with the ceremonial cutting of the
National Day cake, followed by commemorative photographs in a warm and cordial
atmosphere.
Adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the evening,
internationally acclaimed Cameroonian artist Jacky King, who travelled
especially from Paris for the occasion, presented captivating performances
inspired by the traditional Sawa culture, one of Cameroon's most
celebrated cultural traditions along the Atlantic coast. His performances
offered guests a vivid insight into the country's rich artistic heritage and
cultural diversity.
The reception concluded with an elegant dinner hosted by His
Excellency the Consul General in honour of his distinguished guests.

longstanding friendship between Cameroon and Saudi Arabia, highlighting over
six decades of diplomatic cooperation while opening new avenues for investment,
economic partnership, cultural exchange, and people-to-people engagement
between the two friendly nations.
